Maybe More appropriate now than before

I read this book back in the 70s (and only did part of it unfortunately). Recently, I have been studying habits (particularly mine), and human behavior. The elements of habit and human behavior in the book are amazingly current. It's a very simple version of neuro-linguistic programming. This time I read it, and then I tried two completely new approaches:

1. I printed the ten scrolls and tied them with raffia, and told the story to group of college and law students and admonished them to follow the scrolls. So far, so good. They were rapt in attention to the story.
2. As to myself, I am actually following the rules of the scrolls (obviously starting with the first one).

The difference is dramatic. I'd suggest to anyone seeking self-improvement; this is not a sales book: its is a life book. For the price of a decent classy coffee, you'll glean life lessons you'll share with others.

Of course, that is the point of the book.

The book is a must-read for anyone who wants to conquer his or her bad behaviors and ways of life to achieve a better quality of life and success as a whole, not only for himself or herself
but for the betterment of the world.
The book contains small but brilliant ideas which if continously practised will lead to a positive
bandwagon or domino effect on one's life. The author has also explored the medicinal effect of laughter in addition to others.
At the root of this great book is SUCCESS which everybody craves for today. Success is more of a lifestyle, and nothing is wrong with success becoming more of a passion.
The Greatest Secret In The World is all about Change - spiritual and physical!

A disappointing, almost lazy finish to what had promise

I really enjoyed the first two books, and immediately read this third installment. It was such a let down. First, the book feels like it's mostly dialogue. There's very little action, and it's mostly the characters solving problems by talking it out. With such an exciting premise that had a lot of potential it was very disappointing. The intriguing idea of mythical gods among us was brilliant, but Card drove the potential into the dirt. Second, he takes it from being an interesting fantasy tale into strong religious territory and you lose the core of what the story was, and could have been because Card is so busy trying to force it to become a Mormon allegory. The conflicts are resolved so easily and with such little effort that it almost becomes boring.

Disappointing

I finished this book and immediately thought "WFT" Seriously, the tone of this book is LEAGUES from the 1st one. The 2nd one, while not as good as the first one, at least read as if it was being written by the same author. This one appears to have been ghost written by some weirdo who really like to put some people in the same space and spew unrelated stupid bull to each other. Then there are the long long long long long conversation that are REALLY boring. Also, new completely different magic system that screws up everything, new small enemies from nowhere and the families, which are the big bad in the 1st 2 books are really just a small nuisance in this one and are really only an afterthought. VERY disappointed and if this was more than a trilogy, i would NOT buy a 4th book.

Maybe my anticipation was too high. Also this is somewhat spoiler laden.

Pretty much what everyone has said... 1st book left it so it could go anywhere-limitless possibilities . 2nd book seemed like he was in a pickle with an all of a sudden cliff hanger. Then this one... Just 'thinks' it's problems away. When Danny has a challenge he simply figures out a solution in a page or so. Most awesome supporting characters get a cruddy dead end character plateau. I thought there was going to be a war in this one. And real conflict. Not that I'm against happy ending books. But Danny pretty much had no tough choices this book. I would rate it lower based on the ending, but since I did enjoy parts I decided to give it 2. Really the huge conflict at the end is like.... 3 or 4 paragraphs basically(with set) . Then the families are like yeah okay we'll comply no big deal. I've been looking forward to this book for a long time now and it's like phantom menace scale of a let down. Sure darth maul is awesome and is one of the best light saber fights yet... But everything else is disappointing.

About the Author
Joseph Beuys (1921–1986), alchemist, social visionary and artist, was born in Germany. In 1961, he became Professor of Monumental Sculpture at the D�sseldorf Academy, but was expelled in 1972. With his first gallery “action” in 1965, Teaching Paintings to a Dead Hare, his international reputation began to grow. In 1979, he was honored with a major retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum, New York City. He died just after receiving the prestigious Lehmbruck Prize and left behind numerous large-scale installations and site works, hundreds of provocative multiples and small objects, thousands of drawings, documented social sculpture forums about energy, new money forms and direct democracy, and above all, a methodology and ideas such as “parallel process” and “social sculpture.”

Volker Harlan was born in 1938 in Dresden, Germany. He studied arts, biology, and theology, and was a priest of the Christian Community until 2001. He is a cofounder of the private University of Witten-Herdecke and a lecturer on the philosophy of nature and aesthetics. His doctorate was published as Das Bild der Pflanze in Wissenschaft und Kunst. He was a friend of Joseph Beuys from 1972 until Beuys’s death in 1986.

Beuys explains his expanded 'definition' of art and materials

Beuys clarifies what he means when he says that everyone is an artist. Fascinating to hear about the meaning behind his use of such substances as honey, copper and felt to name a few, through the conversation unfolding. Materials also mean will, speech and thought. Art means shaping the society in which we live. We also get an impression of his sense of humour.

About the Author
Drs. Martin and Marian Jerry, physician-scientist and clinical psychologist respectively, have studied and practiced Yoga since 1968 and were initiated into the Tradition of the Himalayan Masters by Swami Veda Bharati in 1982. They studied directly with the late H. H. Swami Rama for ten years in both North America and India. They are founding teachers of the Foothills Yoga Society in Calgary, Canada. They have conducted clinical and laboratory research on the effects of meditation and maintain an active interest in the medical and psychological applications of Yoga philosophy, psychology and practice.

What is the Centre of Consciousness? Our spiritual preceptor, the late H. H. Sri Swami Rama, described it simply as the core or centre of one's being from which consciousness flows in various degrees and grades. Each of us has a divine core, a soul, called the Atman, or Self. We each carry a fragment of God within us. The task of the Spiritual Path is Self-Realization, to become aware of our spiritual nature within and to express it fully. The Centre of Consciousness is one of the first manifestations of Spirit, of spirituality, or of spiritual consciousness, as distinct from ordinary thoughts, feelings and sensations that make up our normal waking experience. This first manifestation is called the Inner Teacher or Inner Guru. It has many names in many traditions. It is a radically new aspect of consciousness in the sense that the acquisition of sight would be to the experience of someone born blind. Those who have vision can share that experience in ways that someone who is blind can only imagine. Likewise, those who know the Centre can recognize and communicate that experience with others who know. But the experience cannot be imagined by or communicated in language to someone who yet does not know. It is a secret that once revealed remains a secret. This kind of experiential direct knowing is what is referred to in the texts frequently as Knowledge. It is not knowledge as we understand it in the West in the sense of intellectual information or understanding about something. For imagination, conceptualization and language are faculties of the intellect whose constructions, however creative or bizarre, can only be based on reorganizations and transformations of elements taken from what is already known, from past experience. They cannot construct a radically and qualitatively new inner experience. The effect must always proceed from the cause; the effect is inherent in the cause. The tendency of Western science to try to explain such things as "emergent properties" of what went before, of something simpler, does not apply here.

"It is important to remember that the consciousness, the Atman or the Self, does not actually evolve. There is no evolution of the Atman, or soul. By the practice of (Yoga) we do not actually evolve; it is a process of involution. It is not true to say that our souls have evolved from the primitive state to our present developed state. The supreme existence, or the soul, is the same as it was thousands of years ago. It does not undergo a change. The only difference is that our lower self or the individualized self becomes aware of that supreme form slowly, step-by-step.

When we turn our minds from the outer world to the inner world, we come to know that there is an infinite facet of existence in us which can only be experienced in samadhi. It is not approachable through the intellect, therefore a sadhana like the eight rungs of Raja Yoga is required."

Excellent coverage of Yoga with a scientific perspective.

Drs. Martin and Marian Jerry have done an exceedingly wonderful job of presenting Himalayan Yoga, guiding us through experiential exercises, and connecting yoga within a spiritual scientific perspective. Written by a psychologist and an oncologist, this is an easy-to-read book that covers this approach to Yoga in a sutra format (brief aphorisms). Highly recommended reading for anyone wondering about or even diligently practicing yoga.

Dr. Gallo is the author of "Energy Psychology", "Energy Diagnostic and Treatment Methods", "Energy Tapping", and "The Neurophysics of Human Behavior."
