About the Author
Sara Diament holds a Masters’ degree in Jewish Studies from Yeshiva University and a Masters’ degree in Health and Behavior Studies from Columbia University. She is also certified as a Health Education Specialist by the National Commission for Health Education. Sara has taught girls and young women in both yeshivas and public schools on topics ranging from puberty to intimacy and relationships, and works individually with young women who are getting married and need personalized education and coaching. In addition, she conducts workshops for parents and educators on talking to children about intimacy. Sara has published a journal article on curriculum design when teaching Orthodox young women about sexuality. She lives in Bergenfield, NJ with her husband and four children and can be reached at saradiament@yahoo.com.

Perfect guide for parents.

In this age of bombardment by sexualized images, Orthodox parents need a way of explaining these things to their children. TTYCAI gives examples of what you can say if your kids asks where babies come from, or if they point out a racy lingerie advert, or if they hear things in the playground. Children learn about sex, reproduction, and other intimate details from two sources; their parents or the kids in the schoolyard.

It should be noted that HEAR ME, MY CHIEFS! is not an extension of YELLOW WOLF (the autobiography of one of the last surviving warriors of the Nez Perce War narrated to McWhorter), but a companion volume in which the entire story of the Nez Perce tribe is unfolded in an inclusive work of inestimable value.

Few men knew the heart and mind of the Indian so thouroughly as L.V. McWhorter, whose devotion to the Nez Perces did not rest in mere appreciation; but took permanent form by recording, through years of patient questioning, their legends and history. When Lucullus McWhorter died in 1944, the task was completed by his son, assisted by members of the staff of the State College of Washington.

This is not just a glorified story of Indians but one which sifts the evidence to find the truth. Wherever words were written concerning the Nez Perces, McWhorter ferreted them out. He contrasted the reminiscences of generals, missionaries, and pioneers with the witness of the Indians, and brought together material accumulated from files of newspapers, old journals, and letters.

Written without dullness, for the richness of the material is derived largely from the quoted and clearly beautiful expressions of the Indian friends of McWhorter, HEAR ME, MY CHIEFS! is a book for the historian, and also for the general reader, who will find here the only complete and definitive record of the Nez Perce Indians with the puzzling aspects of the Nez Perce War of 1877 clarified by the Indians themselves.

Lucullus Virgil McWhorter was born in 1860 ina log cabin in what is now West Virginia.� From his earliest childhood, he was interested in everything pertaining to Indians.� He died in 1944 and, with the help of his son V.O. McWhorter this compilation of his last unfinished manuscript was published in 1952.

This is an amazing read! What sets it apart from the other books is that it is very historically correct and gives the reader a more accurate view from the Nez Perce oral history perspective. To date this is by far the best book that I've read on the Nez Perce.

Fractured is a novel by Catherine McKenzie. It is definitely worth reading. It is one of those novels that you can hardly put down and then you get back to it as soon as you can. It definitely is realistic and keeps your interest. As you read, it is easy to put people you know or are acquainted with in the place of the characters.
Julie Apple Prentice is the writer of a best seller and who is the victim of a stalker. Her husband, Daniel, is willing to make a career move and move from Seattle to Ohio to get away from her stalker. So Julie, Daniel, and their six-year-old twins make the move to Cincinnati. The children are in school and Daniel at work while Julie makes an attempt to write her second novel. Unfortunately, she has problems getting started so starts running of a morning to see if that will help. She starts running with her next door neighbor, John. Julie has a hard time making friends so it was unusual that they became good friends. Other than John, the only friend she makes in the neighborhood is Susan. Everyone else seems to form a dislike to Julie and her family, especially the head of the neighborhood committee, Cindy Sutton. No matter what Julie does, it seems she just makes matters worse.
John Dunbar has been let go by his company and sets out to develop an IT company at home. He helps Julie make her computer safer from hacks when he gets into her files easily. He then helps her set up her webpage. Meanwhile his wife Hanna and their son Chris take a dislike to Julie. He has to walk a thin like between trying to calm his wife down and to seem to be on Julie’s side.
An impossible situation becomes even more so when something happens that could break up the entire neighborhood.

Couldn't stop reading!

This is not a book to start reading when you have something else to do - I downloaded it this morning and couldn't put it down until I'd finished. Catherine McKenzie has artfully put together a complex and intriguing story. A bestselling writer and her family have moved to Cincinnati after being hounded by a stalker, but rather than finding domestic bliss, they realize they've moved into a suburban nightmare. There's the nosy woman down the street who heads an intrusive neighborhood organization (complete with nasty emails, a website designed to encourage spying, and an all-but-required monthly block party that would make anyone want to run for the hills!), the attractive guy across the street who is tempting in more than one way, and lots of teenage drama. It's a brilliant set up, one that McKenzie uses to flawlessly execute a twisty plot that is perfectly paced and populated with well-drawn characters.

This is anything but an ordinary novel of suspense. It's elevated not only buy McKenzie's stylish prose, but by the of issues it addresses. A perfect book club choice!

A WRITER, A STALKER, & TRAGEDY

Best-selling author Julie Apple (Prentice), who wrote The Murder Game, moves with her family from Tacoma to Cincinnati after a stalker seemingly upends her life.

Her husband, Daniel, and their twins, Sam and Melissa, soon seem to settle into their new lives, and Julie works each day on a second book.

Fractured opens with a scene entitled “Today, 6 a.m.”, and we watch as John Dunbar, Julie’s neighbor, ponders events that have transpired. He is clearly in the middle of something troubling, something tragic that has happened in the recent past. Something involving legal action.

From then on, the non-linear story is told, alternating between Julie and John, and moving forward from “a year ago.” Bits and pieces of events are brought out over this time period, and we soon realize who, among the characters living on Pine Street, could be suspects in the tragedy that occurred; a tragedy that we only find out about eventually.

Right away, I really hated one of the characters. Cindy Sutton, a control freak who seems to set the rules for the neighbors, and eventually starts a website that encourages them to spy on one another, seems hell-bent on judging everyone. She cloaks her actions in terms of “safety,” but the “check-ins” on the site pinpoint what everyone else is doing and where. This site seems to feed into the harassment that begins against Julie…again.

Hanna, John’s wife, was another character I couldn’t warm up to…she seemed all too willing to believe neighbors like Cindy, who distrust Julie. John’s friendship with Julie is another issue between them.

Then there is Chris, John and Hanna’s teenage son, who is sneaking around with Ashley, Cindy’s daughter. Ashley was another teen I didn’t like, probably because she also seems untrustworthy.

With neighbors like these, how can Julie settle in and become part of the seemingly cozy surroundings? How did the behavior of Cindy, Hanna, Chris, and Ashley…among others, contribute to the tragic events that unfolded?

A suspenseful tale that kept me glued to the pages until the very end, the story also generated all the emotions you might experience if these events were happening to people you know. When the final reveal was brought forth, I knew that none of the characters would be the same again. And neither would the readers of this book. 5 stars.

This a great book for direction finding if you already havea good grasp on the under lying theory. It is a recipe book. I goes through each step including matlab examples of multiple techniques. It also gives comparisons of the differnet techniques. For the price it is a must buy.

Excellent introduction and review

The publication of this book has been highly anticipated by many in the emerging field of public health informatics and it does not disappoint. Although seemingly targeted at those new or recently introduced to the discipline, or those "crossing over" from other areas within the broader informatics arena, content is very well-suited for all comers, with sufficient detail to satisfy even those familiar with the many issues detailed in the richly detailed case example chapters.
The breadth of material covered is excellent, making it especially appropriate as an introductory or intermediate text. Of particular interest will be the section of the book on "The Science of Public Health Informatics" which includes particularly fine chapters on information architecture, value assessment, management of personnel and projects, and organizational change. Bill Yasnoff does a particularly good job adding clarity to a muddled domain in a chapter on privacy, confidentiality, and security of Public Health Information. Those readers generally interested in PHI education, or with specific interest in developing training programs for PHI programs or for public health agency personnel would find great value in Janise Richard's chapter on core competencies.
The writing style is generally clear and illustrative, albeit not terribly concise. We have adopted this book as the core text for our graduate-level introductory course in PHI.

Very in depth coverage of PHIs. The book is a little short on algorithms and comprehensive coverage of databases. This book has a place in every Public Health Library and will be definitive for years to come. The second edition should be released in a couple of years.

I use this book for a public health informatics course I teach and it serves the purpose very well. The students are mostly public health looking for informatics knowledge. Used with more recent material from the web, it provides a good foundation in the field. It is getting a bit long in the tooth tho - 10 years old now. It would be really nice if an updated edition were to be published.
