Good overall, tax chapter is particularly useful

This book has good coverage of oil and gas exploration for a broad audience, but could stand to have a few more illustrations and tables to explain some of the concepts. It's got a pretty thorough step-by-step explanation of the process from exploration to drilling to (hopeful) profit. Who knows what black gold lurks under yonder plains; this book can help you find out. It's a reasonably quick read and pretty dense.

The book's coverage of the AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax) is particularly useful; for many energy investors the AMT is becoming more and more important. I haven't seen any other books of this type that so thoroughly cover the impact of the AMT. Did you know that the AMT can result in double-taxation? This book explains how to structure your investment so that if you make more than $100,000 (which hopefully you will) you'll be able to minimize the risk of getting hit with a huge AMT bill.

Hopefully the next edition will fix the problem with the charts; it's hard to follow some of the tax examples without having a table or a chart or something.

small book; very good

This is a small book -- only 75 page with notes, but it is very well written and tersely but competently explains the essentials of the subject. It is very readable and pitched just right--- it is intelligent and does not oversimplify but avoids being technical, too detailed or too dry. The chapters are: 1) exploration and production basics parts 1 & 2; 2) Tax advantages to the Ol & Gas investor; 3) Deal Structures; and 4) applying financial concepts. In its small size the book succeeds in painting a comprehensive overview of the subject-- it explains the mechanics of the drilling enterprise, the roles of various parties (including the landowner,operator and various active or passive investor and business partners), decision points in the drilling enterprise and allocations of expenses and profits. An excellent and intelligent introduction to the subject.

20 STARS......MUST READ!!!!

I read this book and went on a fast for a week. I wrote down what I was fasting for and Prayed over the list. You would not believe the results!!! I am making it a habit to go on a Fast at least once a month and when the Lord leads. This book is a must read, because he tells you what he experienced because of Fasting. If you are like me, you want to know the truth and he tells the truth and uses scripture to back it up. If you want to go higher in God, purchase this book and start studying the scriptures on Fasting. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

Powerful!

Some people talk about it and some people do it. This saying goes double for Mahesh Chavda. He practiced the art of Biblical prayer and fasting for over twenty years before he ever started teaching it. And this practice has born fruit in his life.

From the improved medical condition of an autistic boy when Chavda was a social worker to miraculous healings and transformed lives by the thousands-his personal experience demonstrates that prayer and fasting works: that God brings into partnership with Him those who join Him in this way.

Chavda teaches that the Bible is clear that the overcoming believer is one who both prays and fasts - yet fasting on anything resembling a regular basis has all but disappeared from most groups of believers. Chavda believes prayer and fasting is a lifestyle God dearly wants for all believers, and that it is one that God blesses. Those blessings do not necessarily flow to the person practicing prayer and fasting (God does not have a frequent prayer and fasting rewards program!), but rather unleashes God's blessings on those for whom we pray and fast.

This book is filled not only with dozens of real-life examples of the results of prayer and fasting, but also serves as a very practical guide of how to do it. This book is not a casual read. The reader will be challenged to look into the mirror of God's word and examine their own accountability for participating in this heavenly calling.

I have read alot of books on fasting from a theology view, but they lack practical hands knowledge. Mahesh gives a hands on approach to fasting like never before written in the Christian realm. Very balanced Biblical and strong in purpose this book has truly changed my life and view on fasting. Heaven is taking note of this book. If you feel called to the ministy and don't know or understand alot about fasting this is a must.

Great book, I just wanted more from the ending as a fan

Resident Evil: Underworld is a great read for those who desperately want a story/fantasy of what happened after the Raccoon City debacle. S.D Perry does a great job of putting together realistic imagery and emotions behind each of the characters. I would have given this book 5 stars, but I felt that the ending cheated me a bit from particular experiences.

These cheated experiences come from my high hopes placed on the Fossil B.O.W/Monster battle sequence. Although the imagery and vivid details were amazing, the character/monster was reduced, in my opinion, to just a strong fear and impression left to the characters. The events with the Fossil were lesser to the events demonstrated with the Tyrants of the other novels and stories. Which was a shame because with such build up of this monster. I had expected a much more enduring experience, as a reader, with the Fossil BOW.

Even with all that said this still was a great book, and the epilogue was definitely a treat for those who have been a fan of the Resident Evil saga written by S.D Perry.

Nothing special, but some interest for RE fans

This is probably the third or fourth S.D. Perry book I've read, but only because I'm interested in the Resident Evil and Predator stories. I will say this seems like the best written one she's had so far. There are some creative descriptions in here and not as many sentence "fragments," like "Crash from behind" or sentences like that (although there are still a lot). The story is okay, nothing special. I was hoping that "Underworld" was going to be more of a view into the world of Umbrella, based on the books original paperback cover featuring the Umbrella guy by the TV monitors. However, he's the only character involved in the conspiracy, and almost every time we get a scene with him it's the same thing: Reston feels important; how dare subordinates not listen to him; Reston will impress his boss; again and again we get that same scene of him sitting around thinking.

Hardly anything happens in the first 20% of the book or close to it. They are escaping in a car chase at the beginning which may have been a continuation from a prior book I hadn't read? But that doesn't factor into the story and the next 15%+ or so is a lot of characters reflecting on stuff that happened in prior books or games while they are in a van or airplane. It wasn't stuff that I found compelling.

The kindle cover featuring Leon and Claire is a little specious. I'd say the main characters are the 2 non-game characters named David and John, who are standard action movie leaders who talk tough and are tough and make all the right decisions. Rebecca is also in it a bit, but not as much as the others. I surmise because this is not based on a game, they don't want anything necessarily added to a character's "canon" that isn't in the main games, so you have to keep Leon, Claire, and Rebecca's activity to basic stuff, kind of along for the ride, participating in the shootouts, etc. That may be what the publisher limited Perry to.

I do like some of the descriptions, and you get a good variety of Umbrella monsters (even though there are no zombies which didn't bother me). Some of the story feels a lot like the recent Resident Evil: Retribution movie, such as going through the simulator arenas; and there's also a boss monster that sounds a lot like one of the bosses from the RE6 game, so game or movie fans might be interested in that.

But anyway, it's an amusing enough book. I'm glad to see them do a re-release of these sort of with the world of Kindle. I'd like to see more RE stuff, especially since it doesn't cost that much to release ebooks.

Excellent original novel

The Good: Captures the personality and atmosphere of the RE series, new setting is tense and dangerous, great ending

The Bad: Can feel a bit rushed in spots

I started this 7 book Resident Evil series before I even opened this site, so after the review for number 7 is up I will do a Final Thoughts to recap the first 4. This series is an original story by S.D. Perry. She takes the Resident Evil characters that we know, adds some new ones, and a few little twists of her own such as new monsters and Umbrella schemes. It is well done and feels almost better than what Capcom has going. These books were written in the late 90′s after Resident Evil 3 was released, so don't expect anything from anything past that game.

Underworld sees The ex-S.T.A.R.S team consisting of Leon, Claire, Rebecca, and new comers John and David. These two characters are introduced in the earlier books and are solid memorable characters. A mysterious man named Mr. Trent, who has been giving them clues to help shut down Umbrella, finally reveals himself fully, almost, to the team this time around. They want to go to Europe to help Chris and Jill, but he sends them on a different mission in Salt Lake City, Utah to retrieve a code book from a Mr. Reston. This little facility called "Planet" is part of White Umbrella's division where they are testing new species out. The team heads there but a lot of things go wrong in this underground facility.

S.D. Perry does a good job of giving you multiple perspectives on the same situation. Leon and John are stuck in a series of tests that span four rooms throughout most of the book. You get their perspective, then she will cut to Reston's perspective as he sees it all on the camera monitors. You get the insight from every major character and she does a good job chopping up the story and bringing it full circle at the end of the book. Each one is like this and it is highly entertaining, Perry fully utilizes the RE world and captures the characters we have grown to love while still making us hate Umbrella for their horrible experiments.

On the surface Claire, Rebecca, and David are trying to find their way down, but are being intercepted by an Umbrella spook squad to wipe them out. Reston is a conniving coward and your grow to really hate this greasy slimeball. You get a perspective of the characters personalities that can't shine through in a game, you basically get to know them more. Underworld is a fantastic book for RE fans, but I highly recommend you starting at book zero.

ALWAYS INTERESTING!

OK, so he is egotistical. That doesn't change the fact that his life makes for really interesting reading - in fact, he is an amazing man, whether you like him or not. This book is about "surviving at the top" and he should know! He wouldn't have gotten to where he is, if he did'nt know how to survive.
I love any books on Trump - they are always interesting and easy to read, because he just tells it like it is.

Good insight

Who knows more about Trump than Trump himself? This is a good book if you want to know more about Trump. At times he is sincere; like when he tells of the various disadvantaged people he has helped. At times he sounds really fake; he mentions how he admires the courage of gamblers. That is alot of boloney. At times he is boastful; the Trump Princess is the best yacht ever built. But hate him or love him, he says it like it is. He seems very vindictive as evident with his numerous attacks on some very famous people throughout the book. But for those who are his friends, he has nothing but praise for them. He doesn't play politics, but what he does do is make deals and makes a whole bunch of them in this book. One of the recurring themes of the book is to wait for the right price even if it means giving it up and not to let emotions dictate the price. In many instances, the deal comes back to him and at an even better price than ever.

Vastly inferior to the Art of the Deal

For those seeking a noteworthy sequel to the Art of the Deal (a book I rated very high), you will be sorely disappointed. This book contains none of the charm or the excitement behind the building of Donald's empire. Instead, in Surviving at the Top, we are merely given a plain account of Trump's dealings since the time of his first book. The information is written in a manner that is not any more articulate than one might find on Wikipedia.

I give this book two stars instead of one because it does contain some information that would not be available had Donald not decided to put it in print; thus those with a deep interest in Trump will find some value. I personally just could not get past the fact that Donald put together this book as a quick narrative of events to cash in on his last book success rather than provide a quality piece of work on the level of the Art of the Deal.

Not detailed enough in my area of interest but may appeal to others

This book is ok but in my opinion is not well organized. I have been dabbling in IR for over 5 years and just obtained a NIKON D810 with a super color sensor. I was in hopes of learning more about the post processing of my images to attain some interesting color in the final images. I did not find much specific help for that in this book. However, this book may meet the needs of other IR photographers with other needs. This book has many pictures but IMHO does not have that much detailed content. Having said that, it will stay on my book shelf for reference due mainly to the fact that there are not a lot of books on IR currently available. The Deborah Sandidge book is still the very best one that I have found but unfortunately is demanding a very high price because it is currently out of print. In conclusion, what didn't meet my needs may well meet yours. I'd suggest that you check it out based upon your particular requirements.

About the Author
Patrick O'Flanagan is a Professor and Head of the Department of Geography at University College Cork, Ireland. Most of his academic career has been spend at this university. He has maintained close links with all of the Atlantic universities on the Iberian peninsula and especially with the university of Santiago de Compostela. He has published widely on the historical and cultural geography of the Iberian peninsula.

Basic but User Friendly

I have just about every Arabic Dictionary out there. So, why get this? Well, namely because I couldn't say I have every dictionary out there anymore if I didn't. Semantics aside, this isn't a bad dictionary, it just isn't really beefy. This is no Hans Wehr or Mawrid, but that is what I like: it's concise enough where it doesn't overload you with meanings that are either outdated, rarely used, or both. The English to Arabic side is not has comprehensive as the Oxford English to Arabic, but not as muddled and confusing either. This one is geared towards the English speaker. The Arabic to English side is not done by root but alphabetically. For those newcomers to the language, this will make it a lot easier to look up words faster, but if you already understand the root system, it might seem rather elementary.

What would the perfect English to Arabic, Arabic to English Dictionary have?

- Same size as a Langenscheidts or Collins has for Spanish, French, German etc.
- More examples of usage, not just the meaning with no explanatory sentences.
- Inclusion of key terms used in Egyptian, Levantine, Gulf, Maghrabi, and Iraqi dialects (I know some people say those aren't written; tough tomales, it needs to be).
- Included grammar section
- Anything else that common dictionaries have that Arabic, Persian etc.. don't.

Neat little dictionary, and not expensive

This is a concise little dictionary: it's obviously no replacement for a larger dictionary, but it's a very good price, doesn't take up much space, and is more comprehensive than I'd expected.

I should mention that, though it claims to use the IPA to indicate pronunciations, this is only half true. First, while the pronunciation of English words is given using mostly IPA symbols, the stress is marked in non-IPA style. Second, while individual Arabic words in the Arabic section are transliterated using the IPA, they are transliterated using a different system in the English section (as are example phrases in the Arabic section)! This is a very odd decision, which introduces unnecessary and irritating inconsistency. The dictionary also gives the Arabic vowels only in the transcription, rather than marking them on the headword. I'm in two minds about this, particularly as the Arabic words are listed in alphabetical order, rather than by roots. I have no problem with that in itself, given the kind of dictionary this is, but I think that once you're listing the words that way, you might as well mark the vowels on them.

These are relatively minor annoyances, however. Overall, given the amount of information it contains relative to its price and size, this is a useful dictionary.

Arabic font is too small

The dictionary seems accurate enough but the type-setting is too small to read. Also, I only wanted an Arabic-English dictionary but this has also an English-Arabic half to it - that would be fine except that it doubles the size of the book. I would rather have had larger fonts for the same amount of space.

This work also sheds new light on women's literary activities in early modern Japan, which are still noticeably understudied compared to other genres of Japanese literary history.

Historian Keiko Shiba’s work gathers travel diaries from women throughout the Tokugawa shogunate and further reveals the liberties of thought still present in the feminine mind. Motoko Ezaki, coordinator of the Japanese program at Occidental College in Los Angeles, offers a comprehensive English translation to Shiba’s collection, with additional notes to further explain the historical and cultural significance of the many travel diaries.

Stylistically Ezaki’s commentaries are direct, clearly elucidating the historical or cultural references found in the diaries…. Keiko Shiba is an historian and author specializing in women's literary activities during Japan's early modern period. She is particularly renowned in the area of women's travel diaries. Motoko Ezaki is assistant professor at Occidental College where she teaches Japanese language and literature. Her areas of interest include semantics, pragmatics, and literature of early modern to contemporary Japan.
